PADI Underwater Navigation
The PADI Underwater Navigation Specialty course provides you with the skills required to navigate your way underwater. You will learn to use a compass whilst maintaining buoyancy and direction. You will learn the importance of reference points to guide you on your dives. You will learn to measure time and distance as well as the use of the compass in the creation of search patterns which will be important to you as your diving career advances. Whilst the course will be conducted between 6 mts and 9 mts, the basic skills that you will learn can be adapted and built upon for many of the diving environments that you will experience.
Course Requirements:
- PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization)
- Minimum age: 10 years old
PADI Underwater Navigation program covers:
You'll learn the basic uses of a compass; to take bearings and their reciprocals; operation of the bezel. You will walk through the compass course on land prior to going for underwater training. You will learn to measure distances and time by fin kicks from a given location. Navigate to a pre-determined location and return within 6 mts of your starting point. Swim a square search pattern underwater and return to within 8 mts of your starting location. Read and complete the Knowledge Reviews for the various section of the course.
