Have you ever been underwater and discovered objects that may need to be raised to the surface such as an outboard motor? - have you been asked to look for an object that a swimmer has lost whilst swimming? Now is your chance to learn how to do this; how to be able to calculate what equipment you need to lift the object; develope a search pattern that is suitable for you to recover that lost object and have the knowledge as to how to secure the object to the Lift Bag or other lifting equipment that will be used to raise the object to the surface! The PADI Search & Recovery Specialty Course provides you with the basic knowledge to accomplish this.

The course consists of four Open Water dives and teaches you how to develope a series of search patterns to suit differing underwater conditions; tie suitable knots whilst underwater in order to secure the object to a lifting device and then raise it to the surface - now is the chance to enhance your knowledge and skills in this really enjoyable and useful additional skill/course.

Performance Requirements

Search an area approximately 15 x 15 metres/50 x 50 feet to find a small submerged object.
Search an area approximately 30 x 30 metres/100 x 100 feet to find a submerged object that weighs no more than 10 kilograms/25 pounds.
Tie knots underwater: bowline, two half-hitches, sheet-bend.
Use an appropriate lifting device to safely rig and bring to the surface an object that weighs not more than 10 kilograms/25 pounds.

Minimum age: 12 years old and time of course and study is a recommended 24hrs and you must be at least (Junior)Advanced Open Water Diver qualified.

Course Materials: Search & Recovery Manual is included with your certification but a Compass can be purchased at an additional small cost. The manual can be sent to your home address so that you can begin the theory part of your course before you start you holiday in Gozo!

The cost of equipment hire is not included in the course but any teaching aids are inclusive.
